Small Engine Oil
10W-40 Synthetic Small Engine Oil
Formulated to outperform passenger-car/light-truck oils, AMSOIL Synthetic Small-Engine Oil protects against wear, deposits and oil consumption in over-worked, under-maintained small engines.
Engine dependability is vital to running a profitable business, yet most small-engine oils we’ve tested are nothing more than re-labeled automotive oils, which are formulated with fuel economy in mind, not durability. That won’t cut it. Compared to liquid-cooled automotive engines, small engines run hotter; operate under constant load; generate more oil-damaging contaminants; suffer from neglected maintenance and are exposed to dirt, rain, snow and other extremes. Simply put, they’re far tougher on oil that most people think.
AMSOIL Synthetic Small Engine Oil isn’t merely a re-badged automotive oil. Instead, we designed it from the ground up specifically for small-engine dependability. You can rest assured your engines are protected even during periods of extended use when there’s no time for scheduled maintenance. It’s built to solve the problems that plague small engines, including wear, power loss, oil consumption, stuck rings and valves, and harmful carbon deposits. It helps landscapers, contractors and other professionals get more work done and save money.
Excellent Wear Protection
AMSOIL Synthetic Small-Engine Oil is a shear-stable, high-film-strength formulation fortified with a heavy dose of zinc anti-wear additives. It does not thin out due to mechanical shear, ensuring a thick lubricating film. Its zinc chemistry forms a durable barrier that protects against metal-to-metal contact.
Reduces Oil Consumption
In lab testing 10W-30 Synthetic Small-Engine Oil reduced oil consumption 61 percent compared to three leading 10W-30/SAE 30 motor oils**. Its heat-resistant synthetic base oils provide low volatility, excellent viscosity stability and strong oxidation resistance. Engines run longer between top-offs, providing peace of mind that they won’t fail due to oil starvation and will run dependably in the harshest conditions.
Formulated for Power
Engine wear, carbon deposits, valve sticking and piston-ring sticking reduce engine power. Synthetic Small-Engine Oil prevents ring and valve sticking while helping eliminate carbon deposits from forming. As a result, engines produce maximum power throughout their service lives, helping you get more work done.
Extreme-Temperature Performance
Synthetic Small-Engine Oil’s saturated molecular structure offers outstanding extreme-heat resistance. In addition, we’ve fortified the oil with potent anti-oxidant additives that provide further resistance to damaging heat. Its powerful detergent additives fight carbon, varnish and sludge to maximize engine life. In extreme cold, the oil’s naturally high viscosity index and lack of paraffins (waxes) ensure it remains fluid and flows quickly, providing easier cold-weather starts and fast startup lubrication for reduced wear.
- Extended drain intervals
- Helps extend engine life
- Rust-inhibited
Applications and Recommendations
AMSOIL Synthetic Small-Engine Oil is multifunctional and can be used in gasoline engines, off-road diesel engines and certain transmissions. It doesn’t contain friction modifiers and meets JASO wet-clutch standards. It increases convenience and helps prevent misapplication.
Use the appropriate viscosity of Synthetic Small-Engine Oil in applications that require any of the following specifications:
- API SL, SJ, SH, SG…(Gasoline)
- API CD, CF (Diesel)
- JASO MA/MA2, (Wet Clutch)
Use 10W-30 Synthetic Small-Engine Oil in small engines found in (not limited to) mowers (zero-turn, riding, stand-on, push), generators, power washers and other equipment that requires SAE 30 or 10W-30 motor oil, including those made by Briggs & Stratton*, Honda*, Kubota*, Kawasaki*, Kohler*, Tecumseh*, Robin*, Onan*, Wisconsin*, Powertrain*, Yanmar*, Linamar* and Vanguard.
Equipment types include maintenance equipment, tractors, lawn and garden equipment, compactors, pumps, light towers, log splitters, welders, cement mixers and trowels, skid-steers, excavators, rototillers and compressors.
COMPATIBILITY

AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed.
Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL Synthetic Small-Engine Oil.
SERVICE LIFE
Due to wide variances in operating conditions and maintenance practices, AMSOIL does not make specific drain-interval recommendations beyond what the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) recommends. However, AMSOIL Synthetic Small-Engine Oil is a long-life formulation that has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to safely exceed OEM drain intervals in the toughest conditions. It provides an extra measure of protection when equipment goes longer between oil changes than is recommended by the OEM.

Blower, String Trimmer and Chainsaw Oils
SABER® Professional Synthetic 2-Stroke Oil
SABER Professional eliminates the problems that plague handheld two-stroke equipment using other oils, including hard starting, rough running, power loss and shortened service life.
We tested SABER Professional at a 100:1 mix ratio compared to other two-stroke oils at 50:1, and the results are clear: SABER Professional dominated the competition in every area of performance. Even when using half as much oil, SABER Professional does a better job fighting carbon deposits that rob engines of power and reduce their service life. It helps landscapers, contractors and other professionals work more efficiently and cut costs.
Improves Engine Operation & Life
SABER Professional’s high-quality synthetic base oils burn more cleanly than other synthetic and conventional base oils. It eliminates carbon deposits that lead to stuck piston rings, clogged exhaust ports and plugged spark arrestor screens. Following 300 hours of professional-use testing in ECHO* string trimmers, SABER Professional mixed at 100:1 resisted carbon better than ECHO Power Blend* XTended Life* Universal 2-Stroke Oil mixed at 50:1 (see images). For complete test results, see the ECHO 100:1 String Trimmer Technical Study (G3470).
Cuts Oil Costs
Mixing SABER Professional at 100:1 cuts oil costs by 50 percent or more while still providing unmatched protection and performance. It allows professionals the best of both worlds — reduced costs and increased protection.
Smokeless Operation
SABER Professional passes the industry-standard smoke test at the standard rich mix ratio. When mixed at the SABER Ratio, smoke is virtually undetectable. Equipment operators subjected to smoke and fumes benefit from these low-emission properties.
- Excellent lubricity and cleanliness
- Controls friction and helps prevent wear, plug fouling, ring sticking and exhaust port blocking
- Smokeless – delivers fewer emissions at 80:1 and 100:1
- Stabilizes fuel during storage
- Delivers outstanding protection and performance at lean mix ratios
Fuel Stabilization
SABER Professional provides the additional benefit of fuel stabilization to help prevent fuel from deteriorating during storage and causing poor engine performance. There is no need to add an additional fuel stabilizer when putting equipment into seasonal storage.
APPLICATIONS
Use in all two-stroke handheld equipment where JASO FD,, ISO-L-EGD or API-TC oils are specified, including STIHL*, ECHO*, Toro*, Shindaiwa*, Craftsman*, 4-mix STIHL and Hybrid 4 Shindaiwa engines.

AMSOIL Ea® Oil Filters (EAO, EA15K) feature advanced full-synthetic media that traps and holds a greater amount of small, wear-causing contaminants compared to conventional filters. They provide extended service intervals for increased convenience, while helping reduce engine wear.
Absolute Efficiency
Efficiency is the filter’s ability to capture contaminants. The more efficient a filter is, the more contaminants it will remove from the oil. AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters have one of the best efficiency ratings in the automotive/light-truck market. Ea Oil Filters provide a filtering efficiency in accordance with industry standard ISO 4548-12 of 98.7 percent at 20 microns, while competitive filters demonstrate efficiencies as low as 51 percent (see graph).
Less Restriction
Proper oil flow is essential to keeping engine parts lubricated at all times. AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters’ synthetic fibers are smaller than the fibers used in traditional filters, allowing Ea Oil Filters to provide lower restriction. During cold-temperature warm-up periods, an Ea Oil Filter allows the oil to flow through the filter more easily than a typical cellulose filter does. Lower restriction decreases engine wear.
Contaminant Retention
A filter’s capacity refers to the amount of contaminants it can hold and still remain effective. AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters have a greater capacity for small, wear-causing contaminants than competing filter lines. They last longer and ensure the oil is properly filtered.
Superior Construction
AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters are made with premium-grade full-synthetic media. The strictly controlled processing of this media ensures accurate filter construction and is what allows Ea Oil Filters to deliver higher capacity and efficiency along with better durability.
Ea Oil Filters’ full-synthetic media technology is resin-free to resist degradation from hot oil. It uses a wire screen backing that is pleated with the media for superior strength.
Ea Oil Filters are constructed with HNBR gaskets that are fully tested to extreme distances in numerous severe environments. They feature fully tucked seams, a molded element seal, roll-formed threads and a long-lasting, premium-grade silicone anti-drainback valve.

Hydrostatic Transmission Fluid
20W-50 Synthetic Hydrostatic Transmission Fluid
AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic Hydrostatic Transmission Fluid is specifically formulated to deliver smooth, responsive operation in zero-turn mowers, stand-on mowers and other equipment
It fights wear and viscosity loss during continuous, severe-service operation, maximizing mower speed and operability. Unlike motor oils, Synthetic Hydrostatic Transmission Fluid is purpose-built to withstand the unique demands of hydrostatic transmissions. It lasts up to 2X original equipment manufacturer (OEM) recommendations, helping professionals save money and reduce downtime.
Maximizes Mower Speed & Responsiveness
In many zero-turn mowers, oil pressure drives the wheel motors. Fluid that fails to protect against wear can cause the tight tolerances in the wheel motors to widen, which reduces oil pressure and erodes speed and responsiveness. Fluid that thins at high temperatures can have the same effect. AMSOIL Synthetic Hydrostatic Transmission Fluid contains high levels of zinc-based anti-wear additives to help maintain those tight tolerances, while its synthetic base oils naturally resist viscosity loss in extreme heat. As a result, it helps maintain mower speed and responsiveness for increased productivity.
Commercial-Grade Wear Protection
Transmission fluid must form a thick, durable film on gear teeth and other components to guard against metal-to-metal contact and wear. The mechanical action of meshing gear teeth, however, can tear apart – or shear – the molecular structure of the fluid, leading to viscosity loss. High heat can also cause the fluid to thin. The thinner fluid can fail to protect against wear, reducing mower life and increasing maintenance costs. AMSOIL Synthetic Hydrostatic Transmission Fluid’s naturally tough synthetic base oils resist viscosity loss due to shear and high heat, promoting the formation of a durable sacrificial anti-wear film on components that helps extend mower life.
Maintains Cleanliness
High ambient temperatures, combined with hydrostatic transmission temperatures that can exceed 230ºF, cause some conventional fluids to break down and form harmful deposits. AMSOIL Synthetic Hydrostatic Transmission Fluid features naturally heat-resistant synthetic base oils, which reduce deposits and help keep equipment clean and running properly season after season.
- Fights wear for smooth, responsive operation
- Purpose-built to outperform motor oils
- Resists high heat and shear

Fuel Additives for Small Engines
Quickshot
Premium fuel additive formulated to thoroughly clean and restore peak performance in small engine and powersports equipment fuel systems.
Degraded fuel presents a major maintenance issue in small engines and powersports equipment. It can form varnish, gum and insoluble debris that clog carburetors, fuel injectors and fuel filters. Carbon buildup can form on the tops of pistons, causing pre-ignition, rough idling and poor throttle response. Fuel-related problems are only expected to intensify in the coming years as the ethanol content in pump gasoline continues to increase.
AMSOIL Quickshot (AQS) is a premium fuel additive formulated to thoroughly clean and restore peak performance in small engine and powersports equipment fuel systems. It also stabilizes fuel between uses and during short-term storage. Its revolutionary technology focuses on three major fuel-related issues plaguing these applications: ethanol, water and dirty pump gas.
Ethanol
Ethanol in fuel has a tendency to absorb water and separate from the gasoline (a process known as phase separation), sinking to the bottom of the gas tank where it quickly degrades and creates gum, varnish and other insoluble debris that can plug fuel-flow passages and negatively affect engine performance. When this ethanol/water mixture is pulled into the engine, it creates a lean-burn situation that increases combustion chamber temperatures and can lead to engine damage. AMSOIL Quickshot is designed to keep water dispersed throughout the fuel tank, moving it out as a normal part of operation and decreasing the chance of ethanol separating from the gasoline.
Quickshot was tested in fuel containing 10 percent ethanol. Controlled plugging of injectors showed a 70 percent flow improvement, while oxidation stability improved 44 percent over untreated fuel.
Water
Water finds its way into gas tanks through condensation in tanks open to the atmosphere, gas pumps and other environmental conditions, and if left untreated, will cause starting, performance and corrosion problems. By keeping water dispersed in tiny molecules and safely moving it out of the tank through the combustion chamber, Quickshot helps maintain engine performance and protects against damaging corrosion.
Dirty Gasoline
Dirty gasoline causes fuel-system gumming and varnish, as well as piston and combustion chamber deposits. Although all gasoline sold in the U.S. is formulated with a lowest additive concentration (LAC) level of detergent additives, these detergent levels are not enough to prevent deposits from building up on critical fuel system components. Quickshot contains unique chemistry that quickly detaches and carries away deposits and buildups in fuel systems, injectors and carburetors, while also cleaning hard-to-remove deposits on piston tops, spark plugs and other combustion chamber parts.
APPLICATIONS
Quickshot (AQS) is recommended for use in all two- and four-stroke gasoline-powered engines, including motorcycles, snowmobiles, boats, personal watercraft, ATVs, edgers, tillers, mowers, snowblowers, chainsaws, generators and farm and construction equipment. However, AMSOIL P.i.® Performance Improver is the superior choice for passenger vehicle applications.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Quickshot is designed for an initial clean-up dose of 8 oz. per 6 gallons of gasoline, followed by 8 oz. per 12 gallons thereafter. Slight overtreatment has no negative consequences.
